Tailoring in Practice – Vocational Workshops Have Started in Kielce

Sewing machines, cutting, alterations and garment finishing – participants of the “INTEURO Profession” project have started practical tailoring workshops in Kielce. The four-month programme is organised by the project partner – the Nadzieja Rodzinie Association, which runs the Social Integration Centre.

From the very first classes, the focus is above all on practice. Project participants have started vocational tailoring workshops in Kielce, where they are learning step by step how to organise work in a sewing workshop, operate machines and use basic cutting, sewing and garment-finishing techniques.

The activity is implemented as part of the public task entitled “INTEURO Profession – a programme for the professional and social activation of foreigners”, carried out within the Departmental Programme for the Activation of Foreigners for 2026 “Together We Can Do More”.

The workshops are organised by the project partner – the Nadzieja Rodzinie Association, which runs the Social Integration Centre in Kielce. A group of 10 foreigners is taking part in the activities. The workshops will last four months and are conducted in a practical format designed to reflect real working conditions as closely as possible.

A major advantage of the classes is access to the professionally equipped sewing workshop of the Social Integration Centre. Participants can use sewing machines, overlock machines, computerised machines, a multi-needle embroidery machine, a plotter and a cutting table. This allows them to learn how to work with equipment that is also used in professional sewing workshops and production facilities.

The classes are task-oriented and practical – participants do not limit themselves to learning theory, but independently perform individual operations and simple tailoring tasks. In this way, they develop not only technical skills, but also accuracy, patience, work organisation and responsibility for the final result.

The skills acquired during the workshops can prepare participants for work as a tailor or tailor’s assistant, light manufacturing worker, clothing services worker or a person providing clothing repair and alteration services.

The workshops are therefore much more than simply learning how to sew. Their aim is to increase the professional independence of foreigners and prepare them for real participation in the labour market by developing specific practical skills that can be used in employment, further training or self-employment.

The project is implemented by the Integration Europe – East Association in partnership with the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow – Institute of Law, Economics and Administration, the LEX Generalis Foundation, the Nadzieja Rodzinie Association and MassInternet.
