Practice that prepares you for work – INTEURO Profession vocational workshops are under way

Sewing, working with professional equipment, maintaining green areas and carrying out practical outdoor tasks – participants in the INTEURO Profession project are continuing their vocational workshops in Kielce. Four months of hands-on learning are helping them acquire concrete skills that can support their entry or return to the labour market.

Practical vocational workshops for foreign residents are continuing in Kielce as part of the INTEURO Profession project. Participants in two groups are gaining experience in two different areas – tailoring and the maintenance of green areas and small-scale outdoor infrastructure. From the very beginning, the emphasis has been on hands-on learning and tasks that closely resemble those encountered in real working environments.

The activity is carried out as part of the public task “INTEURO Profession – a programme for the professional and social activation of foreigners”. The workshops are organised by the project partner, the Hope for the Family Association, which runs the Social Integration Centre in Kielce. A total of 20 foreign residents take part in two four-month cycles – 10 participants in each group.

In the tailoring workshop, participants learn, among other things, how to organise a workstation, prepare materials, cut and sew fabrics, finish simple products and carry out clothing repairs and alterations. They have access to a professionally equipped tailoring workshop at the Social Integration Centre, including sewing machines, overlock machines, computerised machines, a multi-needle embroidery machine, a plotter and a cutting table.

The second group works mainly outdoors. Participants learn the principles of maintaining green areas, carrying out seasonal work and looking after shared spaces and elements of small-scale outdoor infrastructure. They practise planting, watering and caring for plants, using tools and operating equipment safely during real outdoor tasks.

What do both types of workshop have in common?

• learning through specific practical tasks,

• using professional tools and equipment,

• developing accuracy, independence and responsibility,

• learning how to organise a workstation and working time,

• preparation for functioning in a real working environment.

The workshops are not limited to learning individual tasks. Equally important is the development of consistency, teamwork, responsibility for assigned duties and good work organisation. These competences are valuable regardless of the profession participants choose in the future.

The skills gained during the workshops can be used in many types of employment. Tailoring workshops can prepare participants for work in clothing production and services, garment alterations or as a tailor’s assistant. The green-area maintenance workshops, in turn, develop competences useful in gardening, maintenance, technical work and services related to looking after shared spaces.

The main objective is to increase participants’ professional independence. Four months of regular practice allow them not only to gain new skills but also to test them in action, build confidence in carrying out assigned tasks and prepare more effectively for employment, further training or professional development.

The workshops are one element of the comprehensive support offered through the “INTEURO Profession – a programme for the professional and social activation of foreigners” project. The project is designed to help participants acquire competences needed in the Polish labour market and take further steps towards professional and social independence.

The project is implemented by the Integration Europe – East Association in partnership with the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow – Institute of Law, Economics and Administration, the LEX Generalis Foundation, the Hope for the Family Association and MassInternet.

Participation in the project is free of charge. Detailed information about available forms of support is published on the project website.
